OPEN INNOVATION

A web series that features undergraduate students attempting to solve problems in their community using technology.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN INNOVATOR?

It means you are ready to challenge yourself to do greater things. To put the theory into practice and work alongside other like-minded people, who much like yourself, are ready to learn-by-doing and inspire others in the process.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1. Application

Undergraduate students in Orange County can apply for FREE to become Innovators for our Web Series.

2. Recruitment

Only the 6 most passionate, ambitious, and creative students will be selected.

3. Team up

The Innovators will be split up into two teams of 3 for the duration of the Web Series.

4. Conception

Each team will be challenged to identify a problem in or outside their community and attempt to solve them by establishing open-source project ideas.

5. Development

Each team will have about 3 months to plan and execute their project ideas. They will get full access to the tools and resources in our Makerspace. Their journey will be video documented and turned into a Web Series for others to follow and be inspired by.

6. Publishing

At the end of the 3 months, each team will create a short video tutorial of their completed projects and upload professional technical reports to our website (stembility.org) where they can be downloaded for FREE.

THE BENEFITS

1. Learn new technology

Get exposed to professional tools and technology. If you will most likely use them in your future job, why not learn about them know?

2. Explore the STEM fields

Explore new techniques and topics in the STEM fields. See whats out there, it might just help you find out if your major is right for you.

3. Connect with others

Create connections with other students passionate about learning. Also, get a chance to meet professionals from different industries. Some say “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”, but the truth is “It’s who knows you” that really matters.

4. Create impactful projects

Create impactful open-source projects that solve problems in your community. Having a degree and strong resume are great, but having an innovative and challenging project that you can visually showcase or a great achievement you are particularly proud of makes an even greater impact.

5. Get Exposure

Whether you will be looking for a job or starting your own company after graduation, this opportunity will give you a chance to show the world what you are capable of. Get exposure to potential employers and business partners.

6. Develop your skills

Further develop your soft (Communication, Team and Collaboration, Problem Solving, etc…) and technical skills. We want you to learn how to communicate with others effectively just as much as we want you to learn how code and build cool stuff.
